Abrams Creek
 | It is extremely difficult and the rocks are large, harsh, and plentiful. There is a 15 foot waterfall 2.5 miles in and nothing around for help. Zero cellular service!! The locals say this is normally an impassable river. The only reason we were able to do some of this river is that it was two feet higher than average. Lots of downed trees that were difficult to portage. Be conscious of the wildlife threats (bears). I highly reccommend going elsewhere to this river.... |

Cable Cove Campground
 | 19 miles away Great campground. Not too big (20 sites?), rarely full. Large tent pads, fire rings with grill tops, a separate charcoal grill, picnic tables, and sometimes 2 lantern posts are set on spacious lots set far off the road with most parking areas big enough to accomidate large RV's. Access to campground and boat ramp is paved the whole way. Water and a primative flush toilet provided. Camping close to the entrance may include noises from the pumphouse at night. Only a quarter mile from boat ramp on one of the most beautiful sections of Lake Fontana. Great canoe-camping. The interpretive trail is probably a little over a mile long. Extensive hiking, mountain biking, and kayaking close by. Closest store is at Fontana Village, about 8 mi. away, and if they're closed, I think that the closest beer is some 30 mi. away in Bryson City. Be farwarned. PLEASE BE COURTIOUS TO OTHERS AND LEAVE BARKING DOGS AT HOME!... |
