This lake is one of the great places here in the Great Smoky Mountains. Not far from Gypsum Pond, you'll stumble on City Services Rention Pond which is a lovely lake; a great place to camp here at Gypsum Pond is Cuddle Up Cabin Rentals. Just can't get enough of the Great Smoky Mountains. Glide down the rapids of Turtletown Creek in a kayak, and the Dry Pond Lead Trail offers hiking at its best. And that's not all there is to do here in the Great Smoky Mountains.

Rock Creek Trail
Once we left the starting point, we did not see any trail markings or info. about the trail. We hiked for almost two hours and the trail had no signs of circling back to the trail head so we turned around and returned via the same route. Should have info. signs telling hikers that you have traveled x number of miles and you have x number of miles to travel to reach the starting point. ...

John Muir National Recreation Trail
10 miles away I have not hiked this trail since at least 2005. However, what I remember is that it is a beautiful trail from Reliance (HWY 315) to Appalachia Powerhouse along the broad, rapid, and glorious Hiwassee River. However, upstream from the powerhouse, there is almost no river and my last time on that part of the trail (October, 2002) I remember lots of mosquitos and a poorly maintained trail. I only followed it a mile or two upstream from the powerhouse because there was no river and my goal had been to hike along the beautiful Hiwassee River. I mistakenly thought the river came out of Appalachia Dam and the trail would follow it the entire way. However, because the river is not released until Appalachia Powerhouse, hikers need to know that the only section of this that actually follows a big broad river are the five or six miles between Appalachia Powerhouse and Highway 315. However, those few miles are just beautiful for anyone who likes flat hiking along a giant mountain river!...
Wolf Ridge Trail
12 miles away I hiked via chestnut mnt to bigfrog summit, narrow view in summer. I would like to summit in winter for better views?... Myself and two buddies hiked up Wolf Ridge Trail on 1/18/06 in wintery, full moon conditions. We started the hike around 9:30PM and got to the broad summit of Big Frog shortly after midnight in 2 inches of snow and the wind had to be 25mph or so. Hunter ...

Rice Camp Trail
15 miles away If you attempt Rice Camp Trail Make sure to have compass/GPS and map. There was a terrible storm that blew down literally hundreds of trees. The trail is impassible, no exaggeration!! You can get around the downed trees, but don't expect to stay on the trail. Trees are down about a 1 1/2 miles southeast of the Jacks River Trail....
Lowry Falls Trail
16 miles away Lowry Falls Trail is an easy to moderate trail which features several small waterfalls and some nice rock and cliff formations. The trail is well maintained and marked. Most of the trail is even but there are a few small inclines which could be considered as moderate although they are pretty easy even for a beginner hiker like myself. About 0.25 miles into the trail there is rock bluff that runs beside the trail. Walk under the bluff to reach the best waterfall along the trail....
