You'll wish for more hours in a day to enjoy all the exciting stuff at Thompson Reservoir. Take a hike on the Rapid Creek Trail, and you can have a delightful hiking adventure along the Sunday Gulch Trail. Just can't get enough of the Black Hills. Horse Thief Campground is a great local campground; Little Thompson Draw is also a good place to look at. Going for a hike along the Lost Cabin Trail will let       you absorb the natural beauty of this region, and naturally, all our national parks are good locations to pop by and Jewel Cave National Monument is no exception. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 80's to Thompson Reservoir. Throughout the moonlight hours it's regularly in the 50's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 30's while Thompson Reservoir night low temperatures during the winter are in the 10's. An average amount of precipitation                  falls at Thompson Reservoir; of all the months in a year May is the one with the most rain; the driest month of the year is January. If you came for an overnight stay Rafter J Bar Ranch Camping Resort is a tremendous location to camp, and Comfort Inn Hill City is a pleasant place to get some rest. This lake is so wonderful. A fine close by hotel is Super 8 Motel - Hill City/Mt. Rushmore, and if you like skiing, you're in luck; Terry Peak is reasonably near.
