    In South Carolina there are many beautiful lakes, Sims Pond is one of them. This lake is so wonderful. After a long day outdoors Howard Johnson Express Inn is a magnificent site to spend a night or two, and if you haven’t been to Congaree Swamp National Monument, you ought to schedule some time for it since you're here. Sims Pond gets much water; through July this area sees the most rain while October is regularly the driest month. Having a pleasant time at  
   Sims Pond is simple. If you want to play some golf, you're in luck because Hillcrest Golf Course is in close proximity. There's so much to do here at Sims Pond that you need to camp here for a while, Wheat water Lake Campground is a delightful place for that.
You'll stumble on a gorgeous lake called Ocains Pond near Sims Pond, and Comfort Inn & Suites is a pleasant site to get some rest. If you came to camp Mountaineer Motel is a fine site to do that, and
 
               don't forget to take a great little tour to Early Branch.
Sims Pond is not far at all from Orangeburg, and a delightful lake like Shecuts Pond is a great place to go to. High temperatures at Sims Pond through the days of summer are in the 90's with night lows in the 70's. Throughout the winter highs are commonly in the 50's; night lows at Sims Pond through the winter commonly drop into the 30's.

The fishing stories of Odell and Mary which have been told in the Johnson Family Newsletter are evidence of the love of the outdoors which was passed down to the family from Grandpa Semme.
And to some degree, Marley and Heeley are now enjoying the pleasures of the old-time religion at the old camp grounds which their greatgreatgranddaddy Semme experienced for so many years over a hundred years ago at Cattle Creek Camp Grounds.
These tents still have dirt floors where fresh hay straw is spread for the week or so each year. They are two-story structures which resemble small barns for animals on Southern farms more than they look like a typical tent. I suppose those first camp grounds over a hundred years ago started out with a form of a canvas tent, but I am not sure of that being the reason for the still used name of tent for the structure.
