    The beauty of Prater Pond is reason enough to stop by. This lake is so wonderful. If you came to camp Lake Hartwell State Recreation Area is a good place to do that, and at Prater Pond you always meet someone from Seneca. This lake is so wonderful. After a long day outdoors Jameson Inn Seneca is a fine site to spend a night or two, and if the weather is wonderful, you can go for a hike along the Winding Stairs Trail.
If you come at the right time of year,
 
   Coneross Creek offers some magnificent whitewater, and on a tremendous day you can take a hike along the Chattooga Trail. And if that's not enough, there's heaps more to do in the vicinity of Prater Pond. Get yourself into a kayak and hit Snow River, and camping at Tugaloo State Park is always a wonderful experience. Seneca-Days Inn Clemson is a delightful site to get some rest, and if you get bored of Prater Pond you could also check out close by Spearman  
               Pond.
The high level of precipitation makes Prater Pond a quite wet place; March is the wettest month with most rain, and the driest of the months is October. For the duration of the long summer days at Prater Pond temperatures are generally in the 80's. Through the moonlight hours it's commonly in the 60's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 50's; winter nights come with lows in the 20's to Prater Pond. Varnadore Pond is a nearby lake that you could go to; enjoy a round of golf at Chickasaw Point Golf Course the Trails.

Winding Stairs in in Salem, SC. I have lived here my whole life and have been to the top many times. You can drive all the way up just be careful due to the fact that there are no gaurd rails....I was told the Winding Stairs trail was at Devil's Fork State Park. Is this correct?...From Walhalla, take 28 north/east and bear right on 107. You will pass oconee State Park, and then park at Cherry Hill Campground. The trail is behind Cherry Hill campground....Unless I'm missing something I have no idea how to get to this trail without a gps. I live in GA and would like to visit....

... Simpson Stonecypher and was constructed in the mid 1950's.
The shorelines are constant except in times of heavy rainfall and original life of lake was projected to exceed 100 years. Silt accumulation after 20 years was approximately .5 inche. Normal elevation is apporximately 800'. Feeder streams maintain lake levels even during extended periods of insufficient rainfall and at the same time provide spill into the exiting stream bed.
The lake has been pulled down during periods of heavy construction of highways across the feeder streams to allow silt to return to the streams and pass thru thedrain gates.
Buena Vista Dr crosses the lake in two places; one being the main dam and again on the Coe Branch inlet. Original construction of dams accommodated these crossings.
Over the years sport fishing has been excellent with large mouth Bass, Crappie, Brem, Pike And Catfish, however fishing is limited due to private ownership of property including the lake basin.
