Winding Stairs Trail
11 miles away
Winding Stairs in in Salem, SC. I have lived here my whole life and have been to the top many times. You can drive all the way up just be careful due to the fact that there are no gaurd rails....I was told the Winding Stairs trail was at Devil's Fork State Park. Is this correct?...From Walhalla, take 28 north/east and bear right on 107. You will pass oconee State Park, and then park at Cherry Hill Campground. The trail is behind Cherry Hill campground....Unless I'm missing something I have no idea how to get to this trail without a gps. I live in GA and would like to visit....

Three Forks Trail
17 miles away
I went there 8/09 and it was nice and clean.  6 people went through the camp site some were packing large knives so if you camp over night make sure you have some form of protection and a night light.  Crawfish are in the creek area and fun to catch to pass the time.  It gets cold at night so dress warm stay away from cotton as it soaks up water and you will freeze.  If you want private time go durning the week!!!  Firewood is hard to get as the trees around the site can't be burned without harming you so gather wood durning the daytime....Been there back in the 60's when I was 9, the 70's, and the 80's while in college. Want to go back and take my sons some day soon. Bury me at Three Forks has it right: no cars, no trash, and not for the faint of heart and definitely not an easy place to get to. A very special place in one of the great parks of this nation. Treasure it....

My family and I rented a lovely country home called Maplecrest at Lake Jocasse. It was just perfect and very close to the Park and all the nearby Lake activities. It is hard to find a pet friendly rental but they were very accommodating!...
Lake Jocassee is a crystal clear mountain lake located in Upstate South Carolina. A pristine watershed created in the 1970's as part of the Jocassee Gorges Conservation Area. Jocassee is fed by a myraid of waterfalls, rivers and streams. The Lake is extremely deep with depths of up to 350 ft. making it a fisherman's paradise. The Lake has 75 miles of mostly undeveloped shoreline and is the Crown Jewel of the Southern Blueridge Mountains. A Jocassee Vacation is not to be missed....

Stonecypher Lake
19 miles away
...south of Toccoa Ga in the foothills of the Smokie Mountains. It is fed by Freeman Creek, McAvoy Branch and Coe Branch.
This lake is located on the farm lands of Palmer Simpson Stonecypher and was constructed in the mid 1950's.
The shorelines are constant except in times of heavy rainfall and original life of lake was projected to exceed 100 years. Silt accumulation after 20 years was approximately .5 inche. Normal elevation is apporximately 800'. Feeder streams maintain lake levels even during extended periods of insufficient rainfall and at the same time provide spill into the exiting stream bed.
The lake has been pulled down during periods of heavy construction of highways across the feeder streams to allow silt to return to the streams and pass thru thedrain gates.
Buena Vista Dr crosses the lake in two places; one being the main dam and again on the Coe Branch inlet. Original construction of dams accommodated these crossings.
Over the years sport fishing has been excellent with large mouth Bass, Crappie, Brem, Pike And Catfish, however fishing is limited d...
