This lake is so wonderful. Near Lake Saranac you come across a golf course called Peach Valley Golf Course, and a splendid spot for whitewater paddling is Pacolet. Take a little trip to Halfway Branch since you're here at Lake Saranac, and if you need a spot to stay Marriott Spartanburg Renaissance Park is a great choice. Lake Saranac is fine enough to spend more than a       day at, Croft state Natural Area is a fine local campground; if you don’t have a problem getting soaked, you can always go whitewater paddling on Island Creek. Lake Saranac sees pretty high levels of rain; through March this area sees the most rain, and April is when it's the driest. So much entertaining stuff to do at Lake Saranac, so little time. A great place to camp here at Lake Saranac is Pine Ridge Campground.
