Stonecypher Lake
 | 15 miles away ...> The shorelines are constant except in times of heavy rainfall and original life of lake was projected to exceed 100 years. Silt accumulation after 20 years was approximately .5 inche. Normal elevation is apporximately 800'. Feeder streams maintain lake levels even during extended periods of insufficient rainfall and at the same time provide spill into the exiting stream bed. The lake has been pulled down during periods of heavy construction of highways across the feeder streams to allow silt to return to the streams and pass thru thedrain gates. Buena Vista Dr crosses the lake in two places; one being the main dam and again on the Coe Branch inlet. Original construction of dams accommodated these crossings. The shorelines and surounding hills are populated with native hardwoods and pine, creating scenery which is unsurpassed in the area. Wild turkey, deer, beaver, groundh... |

 | 17 miles away Winding Stairs in in Salem, SC. I have lived here my whole life and have been to the top many times. You can drive all the way up just be careful due to the fact that there are no gaurd rails....I was told the Winding Stairs trail was at Devil's Fork State Park. Is this correct?...From Walhalla, take 28 north/east and bear right on 107. You will pass oconee State Park, and then park at Cherry Hill Campground. The trail is behind Cherry Hill campground....Unless I'm missing something I have no idea how to get to this trail without a gps. I live in GA and would like to visit.... |
