J. Strom Thurmond Reservoir is always a pleasure to visit. This lake is so wonderful. Going for a hike on the Horn Creek Hiking Trail is always a good adventure, and J. Strom Thurmond Reservoir is fine enough to spend more than a day at, Hamilton Branch Campground is a fine local campground. If you're here at J. Strom Thurmond Reservoir, do take a visit to The Point, and a wonderful lake like Smith Lake is a great place to stop at. A quick visit to Lake Spring

to camp here at J. Strom Thurmond Reservoir is Forks Campground, and lakes are such peaceful spots, why not go to Columbia Land Corporation Lake. All through the warm days of summer highs here at J. Strom Thurmond Reservoir get into
the 90's with overnight lows in the 60's. Throughout the winter highs are mostly in the 50's, and overnight lows at J. Strom Thurmond Reservoir all through the winter mostly sink into the 30's. J. Strom Thurmond Reservoir is a relatively
wet place typically with much precipitation; the wettest month of the year is typically March, that's the one that rains the most, and the driest month is November. After a long day outdoors Holiday Inn AUGUSTA WEST I-20 is a
tremendous spot to spend a night or two, and you're sure to stumble upon some friendly people from Augusta-Richmond County here.

Savannah River
 | There are two open spillway dams between the Hwy 28 (Fury's Ferry) Bridge and I-20: Stevens Creek Dam (at the confluence of Stevens Creek) and the Augusta Canal Diversion Dam (about a mile downstream of Stevens Creek Dam). There are no marked access points immediately on either side of either dam. Georgia Power Co. operates an electric generating facility on the Georgia (south) bank at Stevens Creek. At the Canal, since the canal immediately parallels the river some twenty feet above it, there is no river access whatsoever on the Georgia side. Portage would be recommended along private land on the South Carolina side of both dams.... |
