     If you need a place to stay Days Inn Orangeburg South is a glorious choice. Lakes? Sure, Moss Lake is close at hand. Be careful coming to Holman Pond, you might not ever want to go back home again. There are other sites here than Holman Pond, for example T C Moss Pond, and Congaree Swamp National Monument is a perfect local destination. For you golfers we recommend close by Calhoun Country Club. You'll need more than a day to discover everything Holman Pond  
   has to offer, you can camp at Stumphole Landing. Summertime highs at Holman Pond mostly tend to be in the 90's. Summer nighttime lows sink down to the 60's. Through the winter highs are in the 50's; winter nights come with lows in the 30's to Holman Pond.
A good deal of rainfall falls at Holman Pond; July is the month that gets the most rain, and the driest of the months is November. This lake is so wonderful. There's so much to do here at Holman Pond that
 
               you need to camp here for a while, Mountaineer Motel is a splendid location for that, and there's some flowing water nearby, Lyons Creek is a stream you can stop by while you're here.
Here at Holman Pond there are plenty of folks from Orangeburg, and a good close by hotel is Fairfield Inn Orangeburg.

The fishing stories of Odell and Mary which have been told in the Johnson Family Newsletter are evidence of the love of the outdoors which was passed down to the family from Grandpa Semme.
And to some degree, Marley and Heeley are now enjoying the pleasures of the old-time religion at the old camp grounds which their greatgreatgranddaddy Semme experienced for so many years over a hundred years ago at Cattle Creek Camp Grounds.
These tents still have dirt floors where fresh hay straw is spread for the week or so each year. They are two-story structures which resemble small barns for animals on Southern farms more than they look like a typical tent. I suppose those first camp grounds over a hundred years ago started out with a form of a canvas tent, but I am not sure of that being the reason for the still used name of tent for the structure.
