Stonecypher Lake
10 miles away ...was projected to exceed 100 years. Silt accumulation after 20 years was approximately .5 inche. Normal elevation is apporximately 800'. Feeder streams maintain lake levels even during extended periods of insufficient rainfall and at the same time provide spill into the exiting stream bed. The lake has been pulled down during periods of heavy construction of highways across the feeder streams to allow silt to return to the streams and pass thru thedrain gates. Buena Vista Dr crosses the lake in two places; one being the main dam and again on the Coe Branch inlet. Original construction of dams accommodated these crossings. Over the years sport fishing has been excellent with large mouth Bass, Crappie, Brem, Pike And Catfish, however fishing is limited due to private ownership of property including the lake basin. The shorelines and surounding hills are populated with native hardwoods and pine, creating scenery which is unsurpassed in the area. Wild turkey, deer, beaver, groundhog, cayote, fox, rabbit and squirrel inhabit the area as well as most species of mid-south ...

Winding Stairs Trail
17 miles away Winding Stairs in in Salem, SC. I have lived here my whole life and have been to the top many times. You can drive all the way up just be careful due to the fact that there are no gaurd rails....I was told the Winding Stairs trail was at Devil's Fork State Park. Is this correct?...From Walhalla, take 28 north/east and bear right on 107. You will pass oconee State Park, and then park at Cherry Hill Campground. The trail is behind Cherry Hill campground....Unless I'm missing something I have no idea how to get to this trail without a gps. I live in GA and would like to visit....
Three Forks Trail
18 miles away I went there 8/09 and it was nice and clean. 6 people went through the camp site some were packing large knives so if you camp over night make sure you have some form of protection and a night light. Crawfish are in the creek area and fun to catch to pass the time. It gets cold at night so dress warm stay away from cotton as it soaks up water and you will freeze. If you want private time go durning the week!!! Firewood is hard to get as the trees around the site can't be burned without harming you so gather wood durning the daytime....Been there back in the 60's when I was 9, the 70's, and the 80's while in college. Want to go back and take my sons some day soon. Bury me at Three Forks has it right: no cars, no trash, and not for the faint of heart and definitely not an easy place to get to. A very special place in one of the great parks of this nation. Treasure it....
