Dry warm beds await you at Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites LAVONIA; Chickasaw Point Golf Course the Trails is a glorious golf course nearby. Life's too short to enjoy all the fun things near Barrett Pond. A tremendous spot for whitewater paddling in the vicinity of Barrett Pond is Chauga River, and not far from Barrett Pond you'll hit upon Freeman Pond

Chauga River is right next door to Barrett Pond and is always a pleasure to take a look at, and a splendid site nearby is Cleveland Shoal. a brilliant place for that, and since you might be in a lake visiting mood you can always stop by close by Johns Pond. This lake is so wonderful. You'll need more than a day to explore everything Barrett Pond has to offer, you
can camp at Sunset Campground; you can have a wonderful hiking adventure along the Winding Stairs Trail. Barrett Pond sees pretty high levels of precipitation; during March this area sees the most rain; the driest month of the year is October. While you're here at Barrett Pond you can take a hike along the Burrells Ford Trail.

Stonecypher Lake
 | 12 miles away ...lake is located on the farm lands of Palmer Simpson Stonecypher and was constructed in the mid 1950's. The shorelines are constant except in times of heavy rainfall and original life of lake was projected to exceed 100 years. Silt accumulation after 20 years was approximately .5 inche. Normal elevation is apporximately 800'. Feeder streams maintain lake levels even during extended periods of insufficient rainfall and at the same time provide spill into the exiting stream bed. The lake has been pulled down during periods of heavy construction of highways across the feeder streams to allow silt to return to the streams and pass thru thedrain gates. Buena Vista Dr crosses the lake in two places; one being the main dam and again on the Coe Branch inlet. Original construction of dams accommodated these crossings. Over the years sport fishing has been excellent with large mouth Bass, Crappie, Brem, Pike And Catfish, however fishing is limited due to private ownership of property including the lake basin. Winding Stairs Trail
 | 19 miles away Winding Stairs in in Salem, SC. I have lived here my whole life and have been to the top many times. You can drive all the way up just be careful due to the fact that there are no gaurd rails....I was told the Winding Stairs trail was at Devil's Fork State Park. Is this correct?...From Walhalla, take 28 north/east and bear right on 107. You will pass oconee State Park, and then park at Cherry Hill Campground. The trail is behind Cherry Hill campground....Unless I'm missing something I have no idea how to get to this trail without a gps. I live in GA and would like to visit.... |

I have several dozen that are dated Easter Sunday, 1945 (April 1st).? I have being attempting determine the location where these pics were taken.? The only thing grandmother can remember is a name:? Panther Creek Park.? She thought it was somewhere around Corniela.? I found this web page while doing a search for it.? I have included some pics.? The most obvious feature in a lot of this photos is a round brick object that people seemed to spend a lot of time lounging around.? I don't know what to actually call it.?
