Well...Blue Marsh Ski is a cool half-hour away, you can about jump across Mahannon Creek, Mountain Springs is on the other side of the...mountain. But for real, the Landingville Dam is a decent place for water skiing and bass fishing. It is a superb location for crappie fishing and bird watching. The spillway is a great place for pickerel fishing and the emptying Schuylkill River is a wonderful run on a kayak or canoe. Take 'natural area' and 'desilting basin' with a grain of salt, as this dam is both. Natural enough to see a bald eagle, yet enough of a basin to see hundreds of plastic bottles strewn on the shores. Reasons to come to Landingille: carp, jet skis, foilage, isolation. Reasons not to: total lack of civilization, middle of nowhere, water pollution, isolation. People from Pottsville love to come to Stairway Lake, and everyone close by loves skiing at Blue Marsh. Don't forget to take a glorious little visit to Mahannon Creek; hiking along the Yellick Path is splendid fun. For the period of the summertime months at Stairway Lake temperatures are usually in the 80's, and the overnight is rather cooler of course, usually in the 60's. High temperatures during       the winter are normally in the 30's; night lows during the winter for Stairway Lake tend to be in the 10's. Dry warm beds await you at Ramada Pottsville, and lakes are such peaceful sites, why not stop by Deer Lake Pond. If the weather is delightful here at Stairway Lake, you can go for a hike along the Creek Trail; why not take a look at Auburn Dam since you're here. In case you don’t mind getting soaked, you can always go whitewater paddling on Black Creek.                  You'll need more than a day to discover everything Stairway Lake has to offer, you can camp at Christmas Pines Camp Ground. Stairway Lake gets a common amount of rainfall; June is the wettest month with most rain, and February is the month with the least moisture. Life's too short to enjoy all the entertaining things near Stairway Lake. After a long day outdoors Days Inn Pottsville is a perfect place to spend a night or two. There's so much to do here at Stairway Lake that you need to camp here for a while, Appalachian Campsites is a delightful place for that. This lake is so wonderful.
