J&D Campground
13 miles away
We loved this campground. It was clean and neat and many nice people. We are already planning to go back next year. It is so close to Knoebles too....A group of us have been going to J&D for 18 to 20 years. Over this time period they have made many improvements to the campground. Being just down the road from Knobles Amusement Park makes it a better location than the Knobles Camp Ground. J&D site are larger, cleaner and they maintain the sites. Kurt Jones takes special pride in his grass, so don't think about parking on it or setting up a tent. A few years ago he added sewer hook-ups and this has added to the appeal of the campground. The ratings in the camping books appear to be lower than my ratings would be. Usually it is just the opposite. The pool is old and a little small for the size of the campground. But we go back every year and always enjoy the stay....

Stairway Lake
16 miles away
Not to differ from the obscure description given on the site, but Stairway Lake, or the Landingville Dam isn't quite the picture painted by that description. Well...Blue Marsh Ski is a cool half-hour away, you can about jump across Mahannon Creek, Mountain Springs is on the other side of the...mountain. But for real, the Landingville Dam is a decent place for water skiing and bass fishing. It is a superb location for crappie fishing and bird watching. The spillway is a great place for pickerel fishing and the emptying Schuylkill River is a wonderful run on a kayak or canoe. Take 'natural area' and 'desilting basin' with a grain of salt, as this dam is both. Natural enough to see a bald eagle, yet enough of a basin to see hundreds of plastic bottles strewn on the shores. Reasons to come to Landingille: carp, jet skis, foilage, isolation. Reasons not to: total lack of civilization, middle of nowhere, water pollution, isolation....

Knoebels Resort and Campground

...n our 30 ft. travel trailer and now our motorhome. The campground and the amusement park are nice and clean. I have a golden retriever and she gets a charge out of walking through the amusement park with us. We have been camping for many years and I have to say that usually I don't care for campground bathrooms but Knoebels keeps theirs very clean. While it's a pain sometimes because there is no sewer or water hookup, we always have a great time there. My daughter who is now 13 started going on roller coasters there when she was 9 and now we can't keep her off of coasters where ever we go. I also like the fact that we can walk back and forth to our site. Sometimes when we go to amusement parks I really don't feel like going on the rides, but I do because I had to pay to get in. At Knoebels you either buy tickets and go on the rides you want or sometimes they have a handstamp. If you don't want to go on rides, you can still walk around and enjoy the park without having to pay. I also like the fact that it is geared towards families. In the amusement park you can wear a bathing suit wh...
