Aquetong Lake
 | 12 miles away I live less than a mile from this place. Me, my brother, and his friend decided to try to fish here. We found an old canoe with a tag on it that said 1855. We drained the water and paddled out with toy shovels. 90% of this lake is about 1 foot deep. Once you get to the dam-looking part it drops to about 7-9. We fished for about a half hour. Didn't catch anything, or even see a fish (the waters clear as day)....Great for fishing, late at night when the bugs are flying on the surface, the trout jump out and get them. Too bad they don't go for your hook. I've caught sunnys trout and large mouth there. Great place that nobody else fishes at; my own little secret spot ha ha.... |

Unami Creek
 | 19 miles away Ive run the reach once. When I ran the Unami the Perkiomen was at 8,000 cfs, is this the guage you used Don? Or is there an on site guage somewhere we didnt see. The two largest rapids were really sic, we portaged the first and I ran the top half of the second and took out in a microeddy before the nar. Truely an awesome reach, email me sometime at mrz2@lehigh.edu if you plan on running it, Id love to fire it up again....Undercut rocks are the name of the game on this creek. The creek is very narrow, boulder-clogged, continuous and flashy. The general rule is that heavy rain in Quakertown will result in paddleable water on the Unami in Sumneytown within three hours. Read Getler's description and scout all of the rapids prior to running them. My friends and I have paddled this stretch many times around 1.5 feet and 2.5 feet, which is low and scratchy; if you are going to run it above 3 feet, I'd recommend bomber-creek skills as eddies are few and far between.... |
Lake Delmont
 | 19 miles away This lake is called ''Lake Long''. It is located at Delmont Scout Reservation. It was created in 1947 by damming the Unami (until 1917-Swamp) Creek. It was named in honor of Harvey Long, the first ranger at Camp Delmont. Harvey's family lived in the area for many years. I believe his father fought in the Civil War, in the 28th PA infantry.
The Unami Creek was once the site of a thriving gun powder industry from about 1776-1900. The surrounding area is now a popular spot for fishing, hiking, cycling, etc. And still retains a pastorial atmosphere, with little change to the landscape from time immemorial.
