If you come at the right time of year, Bowman Creek offers some great whitewater, and from Places Pond you obtain a good vista of Doll Mountain. Places Pond gets a common amount of annual rainfall; most of the rain falls through June; January is the month with the least moisture. This lake is so wonderful. Places Pond is not the only place close by, Dorn Blazer Pond is a close by lake; camping is available at       Schaffer's Riverside Campgrnd. After a long day outdoors Ramada Plaza Hotel On-The-Square is a good spot to spend a night or two, and if you're a golfer then a good close by course is Shadowbrook Resort Golf Course. This spot rules, just look at all the exciting stuff to do right next door to Places Pond. You must positively dedicate some time to Carney Flat since you're here at Places Pond; a fine place to camp here at Places Pond is Slumber Valley Campground.                  This lake is so wonderful. At Places Pond through the warm days of summer highs are in the 80's. Through the dark hours of summer temperatures dip down into the 50's. Highs during the winter are mostly in the 30's, and nighttime lows all through the winter for Places Pond tend to be in the 10's. The Old Bulldozer Road Trail offers hiking at its best; if you've had enough of Places Pond, Jayne Pond is close by.
