Throughout the warm months highs here at PA-477 Reservoir reach the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures dip down into the 50's. All through the wintertime this place gets highs in the 30's; after the sun is down during the wintertime temperatures at PA-477 Reservoir fall into the 10's. Resort is a great local campground. Get yourself into a kayak and hit Lizard Creek, and hiking along the Valley Rim Trail is splendid fun.

Stairway Lake

Not to differ from the obscure description given on the site, but Stairway Lake, or the Landingville Dam isn't quite the picture painted by that description. Well...Blue Marsh Ski is a cool half-hour away, you can about jump across Mahannon Creek, Mountain Springs is on the other side of the...mountain. But for real, the Landingville Dam is a decent place for water skiing and bass fishing. It is a superb location for crappie fishing and bird watching. The spillway is a great place for pickerel fishing and the emptying Schuylkill River is a wonderful run on a kayak or canoe. Take 'natural area' and 'desilting basin' with a grain of salt, as this dam is both. Natural enough to see a bald eagle, yet enough of a basin to see hundreds of plastic bottles strewn on the shores. Reasons to come to Landingille: carp, jet skis, foilage, isolation. Reasons not to: total lack of civilization, middle of nowhere, water pollution, isolation.... |
