Big Cove Creek has a fine whitewater paddling spot nearby; lakes are such serene places, why not stop at Meadow Grounds Lake. This lake is so wonderful. People from Chambersburg love to come to Mercersburg Reservoir, and Mercersburg Reservoir is right by the Lockard Trail. And that's not all you can do here at Mercersburg Reservoir. If you don't mind getting wet, you can always go whitewater paddling on Licking Creek, and Buck Run Dam is a charming site, certainly

to do here at Mercersburg Reservoir that you need to camp here for a while, Saunderosa Park is a good location for that, and the Plank Trail offers hiking at its best. For the period of the days of summer at Mercersburg Reservoir
highs are mostly in the 80's. Once the sun is down it drops down to the 50's. All through the wintertime the highs are commonly in the 30's with temperatures at Mercersburg Reservoir dipping down into the 10's through winter nights.

Back Creek
 | 16 miles away i do not agree with the II(III) rating of the creek. it is similar in difficulty to nearby sleepy creek and i have no problems paddling this section going upstream (in low water) as well as down. there is also a much more convenient take out at Rt. 3/2 that costs you a mile or so of water but significantly shortens the shuttle. i have not yet used the new gauge upstream of this section for calibration, but if opequon creek at martinsburg is at 3' and sideling hill creek gauge is at 1.4' - the creek should be up.
tilhance creek is very beautiful and has just about every kind of wildlife as well as nice cliffs. use the Rt. 3/2 take out. you will need close to 60 CFS on Hogue Creek to boat tihance.... |
