Residence Inn Hazleton is a good choice. This lake is so wonderful. Little Tomhicken Creek is one of the streams close by that might be worth taking a look at; Pumping Station Reservoir is a nearby lake that you could stop at. Council
Cup Campground is a pleasant campground nearby, and a lake close by is Brandonville Reservoir.
In the event that you don't mind getting wet, you can always go whitewater paddling on Nescopeck Creek, and dry warm beds await you
at Americas Best Value Inn -Hazleton/Drums. A fine place for whitewater paddling in the vicinity of Lake Susquehanna is Black Creek, and Tomhicken Falls is always fun to check out.

Not to differ from the obscure description given on the site, but Stairway Lake, or the Landingville Dam isn't quite the picture painted by that description. Well...Blue Marsh Ski is a cool half-hour away, you can about jump across Mahannon Creek, Mountain Springs is on the other side of the...mountain. But for real, the Landingville Dam is a decent place for water skiing and bass fishing. It is a superb location for crappie fishing and bird watching. The spillway is a great place for pickerel fishing and the emptying Schuylkill River is a wonderful run on a kayak or canoe. Take 'natural area' and 'desilting basin' with a grain of salt, as this dam is both. Natural enough to see a bald eagle, yet enough of a basin to see hundreds of plastic bottles strewn on the shores. Reasons to come to Landingille: carp, jet skis, foilage, isolation. Reasons not to: total lack of civilization, middle of nowhere, water pollution, isolation.... |
