    In Pennsylvania there are many beautiful lakes, Lake Koon is one of them. If you need a place to stay Fairfield Inn & Suites Cumberland is a pleasant choice, and if you've had enough of Lake Koon, Lake Gordon is nearby. The annual rainfall here at Lake Koon is about average; June is when you get the most rain here while October is ordinarily the driest month. You can run the rapids of Flintstone Creek in close proximity to Lake Koon, and dry warm beds await  
   you at Holiday Inn Cumberland-Downtown, Md.
You're possibly keen on lakes, Lake Habeeb is one of those nearby, and there is a great hiking trail close by called the Dickens Trail. All the outdoors entertaining things near Lake Koon will keep you coming back persistently. You'll need more than a day to discover everything Lake Koon has to offer, you can camp at Hidden Springs Campground, and if you're here you can take a hike along the Old Mail Trail. This
 
               lake is so wonderful. Here at Lake Koon you'll almost certainly meet some people from Cumberland, and at Thomas W Koon Dam next to Lake Koon there are some exciting things to see.
Get your pulse rate up on the magnificent whitewater of Evitts Creek. There's so much to do here at Lake Koon that you need to camp here for a while, Rocky Gap State Park is a wonderful place for that. Summer brings highs in the 70's to Lake Koon while night lows are regularly in the 50's. Daytime highs throughout the wintertime are in the 30's; nighttime lows at Lake Koon throughout the wintertime usually descend into the 10's.
This lake is so wonderful. On a splendid day at Lake Koon you can take a hike along the Wigfield Trail, and why not take a little trip to Growden Run since you're here.

Wigfield Trail
As a Wigfield it amused me that there is a trail out there with my name on it ;-). Since this is too far from where I live I believe once the weather get nicer I'll have to go hike it. You all can feel free to check out my website at http://wigfield.org , I do have some nice outdoor pictures online. Especially along the C&O Canal towpath....

Drive a another mile until you cross the rail tracks and make a quick left down a dirt rd that follows the rail track. Follow 200yrd until you reach the train observation deck and park here. Cross the tracks and look at the wounderful 3 shelf drop. If you would like to run it, head right down throught trail above fall. Start river right and work to left as you exit last shelf. watch the nice keeper and the bottem left at very high water....
Water between fairhope and hyndman is full of bolders and water depths drop a lot in summer months. i advice that rafting should be done in the spring....

The natural beauty of rock cliffs, South Branch of the Potomac River that flows north, natural sand beach with fresh water muscle shells and fossil rocks on it make it a great place to launch a boat, fish, do a float trip, etc. You can sit by the river and watch it go past, bird and bald or golden eagle watch, picnic by the day, camp overnight or longer, do a monthly rental, or season lease,and make new friends here!
