User input for Lake Delmont, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania:
Mike Comfort: This lake is called ''Lake Long''. It is located at Delmont Scout Reservation. It was created in 1947 by damming the Unami (until 1917-Swamp) Creek. It was named in honor of Harvey Long, the first ranger at Camp Delmont. Harvey's family lived in the area for many years. I believe his father fought in the Civil War, in the 28th PA infantry.
The Unami Creek was once the site of a thriving gun powder industry from about 1776-1900. The surrounding area is now a popular spot for fishing, hiking, cycling, etc. And still retains a pastorial atmosphere, with little change to the landscape from time immemorial.
-Mike Comfort, author: ''A Whale Boat on the Unami-stories and legends from a time long ago'', c. 1991.
