Antietam Creek

Wow, I live on Little Antietam and the creek seemed at normal level so we went to Funkstown and dropped our canoe in. It was great.  My husband was fishing and I was just enjoying the ride.  Just after we passed the area that is closest to Alt 40 and Cool Hollow Rd we hit rock.  For the next 3 hours we scooted, pushed and walked till we hit the bridge on Barnes Rd.  What a drag.  If the water fall shown is past that I guess I'll never see it....
this is a very nice stretch that also offers good fishing.  I guide smallmouth and trout fishing by kayak on this stretch and the 7 miles downstream.  Feel free to contact me for free info or to book a scenic paddle or fishing trip.  I've got lots of kayaks and canoes and all the gear.  info@fishnfloatadventures.com.  301-432-8469.  Here is a pic of one of my favorite spots....

Beaver Creek

Some additional information that you might be interested in about Beaver Creek is that it is a true limestone spring fed creek.  That means that it has warm water in the Winter and cool water in the Summer.  The upwelling of water through the limestone bedrock creates a unique ecosystem in Maryland with freshwater shrimp, watercress, and lots of well fed trout.  In Winter, this stream can be 10 degrees warmer than any other water and this really attracts wildlife, especially ducks.  This is a wonderful little creek to paddle in a 9-10 foot kayak.  I guide trout fishing on this stream and it is one of my favorite creeks in Maryland.  It holds some trout over 6 lbs. throughout the year.  I do not reccommend kayaking this creek in April because there are lots of people fishing for trout.  If you would like more free information or to book a scenic paddle or trout fishing day, feel free to contact me at 301-432-8469 or visit my website at http://www.fishnfloatadventures.com...

Gunter Valley Reservoir
18 miles away
...ou on a sometimes steep, rocky, sidehill trail through pine, hemlock and hardwood with views of the reservoir from time to time. It terminates on North Reservoir Trail (left) or Gunter Valley Road (right). Following North Reservoir Trail, intersect with Creedon Trail which currently is an out and back to the upper, shallow reaches of the reservoir. Continuing on North Reservoir, cross bridge over Trout Run and follow past the intersection of Turnpike Trail and eventually along a nice waterside trail (with some wet areas(seasonal) and rocky sections back to the dam breast. If you decide to take Turnpike Trail, expect steep climbs to the powerline over the PA turnpike Kittatinny Tunnel is under your feet. At the powerline, looking east, the back side of the Blue Mountain with the powerline cut above the Blue Mt tunnel of the turnpike is visible.  Turnpike Trail turns left and climbs the powerline(note the bear chewings on the poles) to intersect with old logging road (Montgomery Trail). Turn left onto Montgomery and enjoy a mostly downhill walk, eventually turning left off the last log...

Long Pine Run Reservoir
18 miles away
Long Pine Run Reservoir is a great place for kayaking. Its 150 acres can be circumnavigated in about an hour and a half, without straining. The boat launch area has parking for about 20 cars. The day we were there, only about three or four boats shared the water, making it almost like having your own private lake....

Ski Liberty
22 miles away
I loved Ski Liberty when I stayed there a few years ago for a weekend. It was the most fun I've ever had at a ski area. There was a great snow storm while we were there and the conditions were awesome. I'm coming back this year with my children and look forward to sharing your mountain with them....

Regular camping fees at this time (06/08) are $16/night. I have been camping at Greenbelt Park every summer for a week for the last 7 years. It was always at $14 up till last year when it went up to $16. Great Park though! Love it!...
