If you are in Adams county it's always a good idea to stop by Chambersburg Reservoir. Chambersburg Reservoir gets a common amount of yearly precipitation; June is the month that gets the most rain, and January is when it's the driest. Colonels Crk Campground is a perfect local campground, and whitewater paddling is great on Antietam Creek - East Branch. A journey to Catoctin Mountain Park is recommended. Lakes are great; Long Pine Run Reservoir is a lake that's near Chambersburg Reservoir; do take a hike on the Green Ridge Trail. is so wonderful. Rodeway Inn Shippensburg is a fine location to get some rest, and Dark Hollow is also a nice location to look at. Conewago Campground is a pleasant campground nearby, and a quick tour to Birch Run is definitely a
wonderful idea. What a place this is for outdoors folks. Do go to Birch Run Reservoir Dam while you're here at Chambersburg Reservoir, and Chambersburg Reservoir is right by the Lippencot Trail. For the period of the warm months,
highs usually are in the 80's at Chambersburg Reservoir while overnight lows are frequently in the 60's. High temperatures all through the wintertime are normally in the 30's; nighttime lows in the 20's for Chambersburg Reservoir.
Playing golf is lots of fun at Caledonia Golf Club, and Ski Liberty is a very popular ski area around here. This lake is so wonderful. If you need a place to stay Scottish Inns & Suites Fayetteville is a great choice, and on a wonderful day you acquire a glorious vista of Chinquapin Hill from Chambersburg Reservoir.

Gunter Valley Reservoir
 | 19 miles away ... a sometimes steep, rocky, sidehill trail through pine, hemlock and hardwood with views of the reservoir from time to time. It terminates on North Reservoir Trail (left) or Gunter Valley Road (right). Following North Reservoir Trail, intersect with Creedon Trail which currently is an out and back to the upper, shallow reaches of the reservoir. Continuing on North Reservoir, cross bridge over Trout Run and follow past the intersection of Turnpike Trail and eventually along a nice waterside trail (with some wet areas(seasonal) and rocky sections back to the dam breast. If you decide to take Turnpike Trail, expect steep climbs to the powerline over the PA turnpike Kittatinny Tunnel is under your feet. At the powerline, looking east, the back side of the Blue Mountain with the powerline cut above the Blue Mt tunnel of the turnpike is visible. Turnpike Trail turns left and climbs the powerline(note the bear chewings on the poles) to intersect with old logging road (Montgomery Trail). Turn left onto Montgomery and enjoy a mostly downhill walk, eventually turning left off the last log yard... |
