What a nice lake Big Pond is. Near Big Pond you stumble on fine spots like Hairy Springs Hollow, and Big Pond is magnificent enough to spend more than a day at, Conewago Campground is a magnificent local campground. The yearly rain here at Big Pond is about average; the wettest month of the year is regularly June, that's the one that rains the most; January is the month with the least moisture. This lake is so wonderful. Going for a hike on the Pole Bridge Trail

| | is always a brilliant adventure, and do explore Chambersburg Reservoir, it's a scenic lake. After a long day outdoors Rodeway Inn Shippensburg is a tremendous location to spend a night or two; there's whitewater on Antietam Creek - East Branch for all you adrenaline rush seekers. State Park is a splendid location for that. Go for a hike on the Lippencot Trail, and there are some tremendous whitewater spots on Conewago Creek - West. Through the warm days of summer here at Big Pond, high temperatures mostly
reach the 80's, and during summer nights temperatures are in the 60's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 30's, and after the sun is down through the wintertime temperatures at Big Pond descend into the 20's. If you
want a tremendous time in the great outdoors, just come on down to Big Pond. Enjoy a round of golf at Piney Apple Golf Course not far from Big Pond, and the summit of Sliding Rock Mountain can be made out from Big Pond. There are
great locations to discover along the Wildcat Trail, and since you're here, you could also explore beautiful Long Pine Run Reservoir. You'll wish for more hours in a day to enjoy all the fun things at Big Pond. The best way to
spend a winter day is on the slopes of close by Ski Liberty, and during your trip here you'll meet some folks from Gettysburg for sure.

Gunter Valley Reservoir
 | 18 miles away ...ossing the spillway, South Reservoir Trailhead will lead you on a sometimes steep, rocky, sidehill trail through pine, hemlock and hardwood with views of the reservoir from time to time. It terminates on North Reservoir Trail (left) or Gunter Valley Road (right). Following North Reservoir Trail, intersect with Creedon Trail which currently is an out and back to the upper, shallow reaches of the reservoir. Continuing on North Reservoir, cross bridge over Trout Run and follow past the intersection of Turnpike Trail and eventually along a nice waterside trail (with some wet areas(seasonal) and rocky sections back to the dam breast. If you decide to take Turnpike Trail, expect steep climbs to the powerline over the PA turnpike Kittatinny Tunnel is under your feet. At the powerline, looking east, the back side of the Blue Mountain with the powerline cut above the Blue Mt tunnel of the turnpike is visible.
