Little Conemaugh River
11 miles away
There is a dangerous section when the elevation drops, and the river turns wicked.  This is the ECHO/PARKHILL section of the river.  When you see a huge green bridge, you are coming near to the drop.  Be careful of the hydraulics, this is a dangerous section, but can be navigated with some foresight. ...Very dangerous river. Not recommended for beginners....Ran this river for the first time today thinking it would be a gentle paddle. WARNING. It is NOT class II. There are many boulders and ledges. Swift current in high water. Hazardous thirty-foot waterfall right after a sharp bend to the left...with no warning. I banged my kayak up really bad taking the fall and nearly died. BE CAUTIOUS....

Wright's Orchard Station Campground
18 miles away
I stayed on the first night of the 2006 operating season (as advertised) and was really impressed. The campground, bath houses, and laundry facilities were very clean and modern. I was travelling in a 37' Class A and had site #1. The outer sites look to be the best for larger rigs - even though the pull throughs are in the middle, several large trees look like they would make it difficult to get a good postion on the site. No real activities, but a nice quiet place that is close to downtown Altoona and it's activities. Would definately stay again the next time we're in town....
