Many people like to go to Bear Pond. A quick journey to Horse Valley Run near Bear Pond is a wonderful idea, and if you need a site to stay Quality Inn & Suites is a fine choice. If you came to camp Idle Acres Camping Area is a nice place to do that, and the Negro Clearing Trail is a good hiking trail nearby. If you come at the right time of year, Kishacoquillas Creek offers some fine whitewater, and since you're here you can take a hike along the Robber Hollow

| | Trail. For the period of the summer months highs here at Bear Pond get into the 80's; all through summer nights temperatures are in the 60's. The winter brings highs down to the 30's with temperatures at Bear Pond dipping down into the 10's all through winter nights. This lake is so wonderful. On a delightful day at Bear Pond you can take a hike along the Hampton Trail. You'll wish for more hours in a day to enjoy all the entertaining stuff at Bear Pond. | |

Here at Bear Pond there are plenty of people from Lewistown, and if you've had enough of Bear Pond, Minehart Reservoir is nearby. This lake is so wonderful. Blain Hollow is a nice place to go to nearby. There's so much to do here
at Bear Pond that you need to camp here for a while, Locust Campground is a fine site for that. Dry warm beds await you at Super 8 Motel - Burnham/Lewistown Area, naturally you could also stop at Horseshoe Lake since you're here;
it's not far at all. An average amount of precipitation falls at Bear Pond; June is the wettest month with most rain, and January is when it's the driest.

Gunter Valley Reservoir
 | 12 miles away ...y Road (right). Following North Reservoir Trail, intersect with Creedon Trail which currently is an out and back to the upper, shallow reaches of the reservoir. Continuing on North Reservoir, cross bridge over Trout Run and follow past the intersection of Turnpike Trail and eventually along a nice waterside trail (with some wet areas(seasonal) and rocky sections back to the dam breast. If you decide to take Turnpike Trail, expect steep climbs to the powerline over the PA turnpike Kittatinny Tunnel is under your feet. At the powerline, looking east, the back side of the Blue Mountain with the powerline cut above the Blue Mt tunnel of the turnpike is visible. Turnpike Trail turns left and climbs the powerline(note the bear chewings on the poles) to intersect with old logging road (Montgomery Trail). Turn left onto Montgomery and enjoy a mostly downhill walk, eventually turning left off the last log yard road before a private tract, down the rock steps, through a cool forest to a sometimes tricky wade across Trout Run following the trail around the private tract, left onto the logging ... |

It takes exactly 7 minutes and 43 seconds to get up the lift and 4 minutes and 22 seconds to get up the t-bar (which they fixed with duct tape) Never get chair 32, the bars don't go down, and chairs 75 and 1 are lucky. If you ask nicely in the lodge, they'll warm up your cinnamon bun for you and always try the vending machine without money first, it sometimes works.
