Went to Winopee lake this weekend...it was a little dissapointing because the lake is about 45% covered with reeds and lilly pads. The Eastern shore is the only one you can accesst the water without having to wade through reeds. There is quite a few algae blooms so swimming isn't an option. Overall, the view was nice but not spectacular. There are three decent campsites at the lake, popular with horse camps. The best of the three sites is the one on the Eastern bank, take the first trail you come accross before reaching the junction for sno-shoe lake. The second and third campsites are on the West bank and are a little harder to find...head for the clifs and you are there.

Go for a hike on the Winopee Lake Trail, and Winopee Lake is magnificent enough to spend more than a day at, East Lake Resort and RV Parks is a magnificent local campground.    of Winopee Lake, Upper Snowshoe Lake is close by. Winopee Lake is a beautiful lake in the Central Cascade Range.
At Winopee Lake during the summer months highs are in the 80's with overnight lows in the 40's. Highs during the wintertime are usually in the 40's, and after the sun is down all through the wintertime temperatures at Winopee Lake drop into the 20's. Winopee Lake really is in the middle of a pretty outdoors paradise. You can never get enough

of the pleasant skiing at Mt. Bachelor, and whitewater paddling is not for everybody but if it's for you then, we recommend Horse Creek. Winopee Lake sees pretty high levels of rain; during December this area sees the most rain, and the driest month of the year is July.
If you go for the outdoors you'll go for it here in the Central Cascade Range. There's whitewater on Deschutes River for all you thrill seekers. You could also stop at Snowshoe Lake since you're here at Winopee Lake; it's close by, and camping at Upper Campground is always a great experience. This lake is so wonderful. This website needs updating. I was there on Aug. 2nd,3rd, and 4th 2007. There are a LOT of bass there. We saw NO trout at all, and no one we talked to had caught or seen one. I was there with 2 others for bass fishing. there is no camping at the west boat launch area. Day use only. There are 2 camp sites on the east side. The Lava Flow site is closed, and has been for some time. There is a primative site there. No water or elec. and very primative boat launching area. You have to pole or row through the tules to get out on the lake. The old campground is closed because of Eagles nest there. Eagles are no longer on the endangerd spieces list. Why not re-open that area. it has a great boat ramp. Bass fishing was great, but not many large fish when we were there. Lots of smaller bass. We were told it was real good in late June and first half of July. We will try again next year....
