If you are in Curry county it's always a good idea to stop by Valen Lake. Valen Lake is a beautiful lake in the Coast Ranges. If you want a tremendous time in the great outdoors, just come on down to Valen Lake. Take a hike on the Upper Chetco Trail; if you came to camp Alfred A. Loeb is a tremendous place to do that. Summer at Valen Lake comes with high temperatures in the 70's. Once the sun is down it plunges down to the 50's. The cold days of the winter

| | come with highs in the 50's with temperatures at Valen Lake dipping down into the 30's all through winter nights.
This lake is so wonderful. Going for a hike along the Illinois River Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this neighborhood; Dry Butte can be spotted from Valen Lake. These mountains rock, just look at all the fun stuff to do in the Coast Ranges. After a long day outdoors Sea Dreamer Inn is a wonderful spot to spend a night or two. | |

There's so much to do here at Valen Lake that you need to camp here for a while, Meadow Creek Campground is a splendid site for that. All the water falling down from the sky makes Valen Lake a wet place; December is the month that
gets the most rain; July on the other hand is the driest.
You clearly have to fancy the Coast Ranges. A great nearby hotel is Singing Springs Ranch. You can run the rapids of Illinois River near Valen Lake; a lake close by is
Salamander Lake. Hiking along the Chetco Peak Trail is magnificent fun, and a tremendous place for whitewater paddling is Smith River - North Fork.
