If you are traveling by, why not stop by Smith Hole. Dry warm beds await you at Pacific Reef Resort. This lake is so wonderful. A glorious spot to camp here at Smith Hole is Agness RV Park, and Anderson Creek is one of the streams close by that might be worth going to. This lake is one of the great places here in the Coast Ranges. No need to travel far to explore attention-grabbing stuff like Twin Sisters, and tremendous hiking is available along the Bear

| | Camp Trail. Summertime highs at Smith Hole mostly tend to be in the 70's, and during the night it cools down to the 50's. During the winter highs are in the 50's with winter lows in the 30's overnight here at Smith Hole. You just can't picture the amount of outdoors exciting stuff the area near Smith Hole has to offer. You can run the rapids of Coquille River - South Fork right next door to Smith Hole, and camping is available at McCurdy Campground. Big | |

Eddy is a nearby lake that you could check out, and Illinois River is a splendid whitewater spot close by. You simply should like the Coast Ranges. Put some time aside to spend at Crooked Riffle if you're here at Smith Hole; Agness
Bar is in the neighborhood, and is a nice place. Smith Hole is a wet site that gets much rainfall; through December this area sees the most rain; July is the month with the least moisture. These mountains rock, just check out
all the exciting things to do in the Coast Ranges. If you get bored of Smith Hole, you could also stop by nearby Allen Pool; you can go for a hike on the Mountain Wells Trail. This lake is so wonderful. There are brilliant locations to look at along the Lower River Trail; you're sure to encounter some good people from Brookings here.

Illinois River Trail
 | 14 miles away ...as TWO trailheads. The eastern trailhead is near Selma, OR. This is the one indicated on the map. There is also a western trailhead located in Agness OR. This trailhead is located at the end of Oak Flat Road. The Forest Service maintains a primitive campground there. This trailhead is approximately 4 miles from a small grocery store. There is also a private campground located within a quarter mile of the western trailhead. This campground is the Illinois River Lodge RV Park. The article mentions Brookings as being the nearest city on the western end. Actualy Gold Beach is closer than Bandon. Agness Oregon is a small town located near the western trailhead. Agness is a great three season recreation area. Hiking, swimming, rafting, kayaking and fishing are the main attractions. Agness has three restaurants open spring thru fall. There is also a choice of variuos overnight accommodations. As far as the weather is concerned on the Illinois River trail, my understanding is it is hot and dry in the summer and rainy from early October thru April.
