McCarthy Creek is a great local stream, and camping at Scappose Airport County Park is always a nice experience. This lake is so wonderful. If you need a place to stay Phoenix Inn Suites Beaverton is a pleasant choice; do explore Howell Lake, it's a gorgeous lake. Little Sturgeon Lake is a pretty site any time of year, and swamps can be such exciting sites, go to Ash Slough while you're here at Sand Lake. After a long day outdoors Phoenix Inn is a great place
to spend a night or two; the smiling people of Portland-Vancouver-Beaverton like to hang out close by.
This lake is so wonderful. Sand Lake commonly gets a lot of precipitation; the wettest month of the year is mostly December, that's the one that rains the most, and the driest month is July. You completely ought to like Sand Lake. Whitewater paddling is fine on Lewis River - East Fork, and Sand Lake is good enough to spend more than a day at, Reeder Beach

RV Park is a good local campground.
Summertime highs at Sand Lake frequently tend to be in the 80's. Summer night lows fall down to the 50's. The winter brings highs down to the 40's, and nighttime lows at Sand Lake through the winter regularly drop into the 30's. If you don't mind getting covered with water, you can always go whitewater paddling on Kalama River, and a pretty lake like Moar Lake is a good location to visit.

Don't Go all the way to wilsonville for a hotel. if you head in towards portland on the 26, there are plenty of hotels from government camp to welches. Personally if you're going to a lake in the mountains you should be CAMPING. And there are plenty of sites to do so, both reserved and not. There are great hiking trails and it's also full of fish and crawdads. Boating is a must if possible....

Lewis River - East Fork

*WARNING* Lewisville Pk to DayBreak on July 2, 2009. Water very low and very rocky using tubes and raft. Had to get out often and dislodge from rocks or walk over river rock. Had to walk from 1/4 sign to Daybreak all the way out and was VERY UNHAPPY. Walk was actually about a mile to parking area over river rock and then very narrow trail. Trails not marked if you have to get out and walk because water was TOO low (only a few inches deep). Would have appreciated uptodate info at booth at Lewisville entrance. Was told rafting was fine to Daybreak. Trip took 5.5 hours and was told it would take 2.5....
