Now, you may assume that's a lot but there's even more fun things to do here in the Central Cascade Range. Since you're here at Koko Lake why not check out Minto Pass, and whitewater paddling is not for everyone but if it's for you then, we recommend Metolius River. Dry warm beds await you at Best Western Ponderosa Lodge; Wasco Lake is a nearby lake that you could visit. Koko Lake sees pretty high levels of rainfall; most of the rain falls through December,

After a long day outdoors Lodge at Suttle Lake is a good location to spend a night or two. offers some fine whitewater, and do take a hike on the Little Lake Trail. This lake is so wonderful. There's no such thing as a bad day of skiing at nearby Hoodoo; the Minto Pass Trail offers hiking at its best. Whohoo, so much exciting
stuff in one place! The Central Cascade Range is unbeatable! While you're here at Koko Lake it's a great idea to stop at Canyon Creek Meadows, and why not take a refreshing hike along the Summit Trail. Through the summer months
at Koko Lake highs are generally in the 70's; through summer nights temperatures are in the 40's. Highs all through the wintertime are frequently in the 30's, and winter nights come with lows in the 20's to Koko Lake. This lake is
so wonderful. While you're here at Koko Lake, you could also explore delightful Catlin Lake. You'll need more than a day to look at everything Koko Lake has to offer, you can camp at Cold Springs Resort.

Jefferson Lake Trail
 | I just completed this trail with my German Shepherd and had a great time. We made Jefferson Lake in 4 hours, stayed the night and returned at a faster pace, making the trailhead in 3 hours. A big portion of the trail is overgrown with 5ft. tall plant life, making the trail impossible to see. I used a compass to stay on course and bushwhack for about 3 miles, then picked up the trail again. It's obvious this trail hasn't received any attention from the forest service for some time now,so plan on using your nav skills on this one. We encountered a braver-than-average black bear while encamped at Jefferson Lake, and had difficulty finding a suitable place to hang a bear bag since all the trees are limbless due to a forest fire. My dog, Sigg, is a good bear deterrant and took the night shift guarding the food bag. If you are considering this trail, start early enough so you're not walking in the dark and bring some good jungle juice (deet). Bear bells may be useful as well. Hope this helps somebody!... |
