you don’t go skiing at Mt. Hood Ski Bowl while you're here, and close by you stumble on the Lost Lake Butte Trail which is a magnificent hiking trail. There's no way anybody can get bored here in the Central Cascade Range. After
a long day outdoors Columbia Gorge Motel is a brilliant location to spend a night or two, and if you came to camp Cascade Locks Koa Kampground is a magnificent site to do that. This lake is so wonderful. There are some great whitewater
spots on Wind River, and on a splendid day you can take a hike along the Herman Creek Trail. Hicks Lake regularly gets a lot of precipitation; the wettest month of the year is commonly December, that's the one that rains the most
while July is mostly the driest month. This lake is so wonderful. If you come at the right time of year, Hood River - Lake Branch offers some splendid whitewater; Hicks Lake is not the only location close by, Mud Lake is a close
by lake. Hicks Lake is one of the lakes here in the Central Cascade Range. Very wonderful scenery and glorious skiing is what you get at Timberline Lodge, and a lake nearby is Wahtum Lake.

Herman Creek Trail
The Herman Creek Trail was constructed for foot access to the old site of a wartime lookout built to spot ballon bomb sent over by Japan. There were three cabins just past the cliff road and the end of the Herman Creek cut-off trail which statrted at seven and a half mile camp in what was once Cedder Swamp just below Mud Lake....
Pacific Crest Trail - section 23
Roundtrip Distance 16 miles Elevation Gain 2,620 ft. This peak is trailless, meaning a portion or all of the route up the mountain is via an unmarked trail. For this particular mountain, the typical route is known as a ''herd path'' which is not much more than a worn, but unmarked trail. Some of the herd paths are easy to follow, others are not. In many instances the hiker will travel down a false herd path and eventually have to correct his/her course via backtracking. For these particular mountains, it is imperative that the hiker carry a compass (and know how to use it) and topographic map....
Little Ashes Lake
Since the previous post was negative, I was skeptical about fishing there. I sent a couple of hours fishing there at one of the few access spots to see how it fished. I was fortunate enough to land a trout about 27 inches long. Not to bad for a couple hours. Caught using a rooster tail spinner. Gotta give it a try....Little Ashes lake is a medium sized spillway from the Columbia River. There is not much public access to the lake. The lake is boundaried on the southwest side by Highway 14. and all the rest is Private property. No way to launch a boat, but I have float tubed it. There are no trails to hike around this lake. You won't want to swim in it since it is columbia river water. The fishing is unproductive as i fished it and never caught a single bass or trout, only sucker fish and perch. My advice is to just enjoy the sight of this lake, but venturing into it is a waste of time....
