The beauty of Grass Lake is reason enough to stop by. Grass Lake gets a lot of water; December is when you get the most rain here; July meanwhile is the driest month. This lake is so wonderful. If you come at the right time of year, Smith River - North Fork offers some nice whitewater. And that's not everything there is to do here in the Coast Ranges. Why not pop by nearby Basin Creek if you're here at Grass Lake; Alfred A. Loeb is a glorious local campground.

A delightful close by hotel is Wild Rivers Motor Lodge; the Packsaddle Trail offers hiking at its best. Whitewater paddling is not for everyone but if it's for you then we recommend Illinois River, and why not take a refreshing hike along the Snow Camp Trail. The | |

The article mentions Brookings as being the nearest city on the western end. Actualy Gold Beach is closer than Bandon. Agness Oregon is a small town located near the western trailhead.
