At Grass Lake during the months of summer highs are in the 60's, and all through the night it cools down to the 50's. For the period of the wintertime this place gets highs in the 50's with temperatures at Grass Lake dipping down into the 40's during winter nights. This lake is so wonderful. If the weather is magnificent here at Grass Lake, you can go for a hike along the Eagle Creek Trail, and whitewater paddling is not for everybody but if it's for you then,
| | | |
| | we recommend Smith River - North Fork. So many exciting things to do here at Grass Lake, too wonderful to be true. If you get bored of Grass Lake, you could also take a look at close by Lish Lake; on a good day you can take a hike along the Packsaddle Trail. This lake is so wonderful. Dry warm beds await you at Best Western Beachfront Inn. Be careful coming to the Coast Ranges, you might not ever want to go back home again. If you need a spot to stay Wild | |

Rivers Motor Lodge is a splendid choice, and get your heart pumping on the brilliant whitewater of Illinois River. Vulcan Lake is a nearby lake that you could go to, and from Grass Lake you get a great sight of Basin Butte. That
right there is a heap of fun stuff already but it goes on, the Coast Ranges has it all. Some nearby water includes Basin Creek; camping at Alfred A. Loeb is always a tremendous experience. Camping is available at AT River Edge RV
Resort, and the Snow Camp Trail is a wonderful hiking trail close by. The Coast Ranges scenery is always beautiful. All the water falling down from the sky makes Grass Lake a wet site; most of the rain falls throughout December, and the driest of the months is July.

Illinois River Trail
 | 17 miles away ...llinois River Trail has TWO trailheads. The eastern trailhead is near Selma, OR. This is the one indicated on the map. There is also a western trailhead located in Agness OR. This trailhead is located at the end of Oak Flat Road. The Forest Service maintains a primitive campground there. This trailhead is approximately 4 miles from a small grocery store. There is also a private campground located within a quarter mile of the western trailhead. This campground is the Illinois River Lodge RV Park. The article mentions Brookings as being the nearest city on the western end. Actualy Gold Beach is closer than Bandon. Agness Oregon is a small town located near the western trailhead. Agness is a great three season recreation area. Hiking, swimming, rafting, kayaking and fishing are the main attractions. Agness has three restaurants open spring thru fall. There is also a choice of variuos overnight accommodations. As far as the weather is concerned on the Illinois River trail, my understanding is it is hot and dry in the summer and rainy from early October thru April. Septmber- October and M... |
