If you are in Marion county it's always a good idea to stop by Gibson Lake. Gibson Lake is located in the Central Cascade Range. High temperatures at Gibson Lake through the summer are in the 70's. When the night sets in temperatures dip down into the 50's. For the period of the winter highs are in the 40's while the cold winter nights at Gibson Lake are in the 30's. paddling on Collawash River. Now, you may believe that's lots but there's even more amusing stuff to do here at Gibson Lake. A nice place for whitewater paddling in close proximity to Gibson Lake is Marion Creek, and you can have
a glorious hiking adventure along the Cub Creek Trail. Gibson Lake is magnificent enough to spend more than a day at, Lemiti Campground is a magnificent local campground; if you're here you can take a hike along the South Breitenbush
Trail. This lake is so wonderful. There's so much to do here at Gibson Lake that you need to camp here for a while, Trout Lake Campground is a splendid place for that, and going for a hike along the Pacific Crest Trail - section 22
will let you absorb the natural beauty of this neighborhood. This lake is so wonderful. Lakes? Sure, Spoon Lake is close by. So many enjoyable things to do here in the Central Cascade Range, too great to be true. Campbell Butte is clearly visible from Gibson Lake, and everyone loves Kuckup Park.

Jefferson Lake Trail
 | I just completed this trail with my German Shepherd and had a great time. We made Jefferson Lake in 4 hours, stayed the night and returned at a faster pace, making the trailhead in 3 hours. A big portion of the trail is overgrown with 5ft. tall plant life, making the trail impossible to see. I used a compass to stay on course and bushwhack for about 3 miles, then picked up the trail again. It's obvious this trail hasn't received any attention from the forest service for some time now,so plan on using your nav skills on this one. We encountered a braver-than-average black bear while encamped at Jefferson Lake, and had difficulty finding a suitable place to hang a bear bag since all the trees are limbless due to a forest fire. My dog, Sigg, is a good bear deterrant and took the night shift guarding the food bag. If you are considering this trail, start early enough so you're not walking in the dark and bring some good jungle juice (deet). Bear bells may be useful as well. Hope this helps somebody!... |
