Beautiful Elkhorn Lake has much to offer visitors. After a long day outdoors Best Western Sandy Inn is a good spot to spend a night or two, and if you came for an overnight stay B and B Rentals is a pleasant place to camp. During the summertime months here at Elkhorn Lake, high temperatures frequently get into the 70's, and the nighttime is a little colder of course, frequently in the 40's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 40's while Elkhorn Lake overnight

| | low temperatures during the wintertime are in the 30's. Not enough hours in a day to enjoy the Central Cascade Range. Elkhorn Mountain is clearly visible from Elkhorn Lake; if you don't mind getting covered with water, you can always go whitewater paddling on Santiam River - North. This lake is so wonderful. On a great day at Elkhorn Lake you can take a hike along the Rocky Top Trail, and as expected Big Twelve Creek flows through this vicinity. But wait, | |

there's more cool stuff to do in the Central Cascade Range. A magnificent location for whitewater paddling next to Elkhorn Lake is Elkhorn Creek, and lakes are such calm spots, why not visit Big Cliff Reservoir. This lake is one of
the great places here in the Central Cascade Range. Elkhorn Lake sees pretty high levels of rainfall; during the month of December you get the most rain around here, and July meanwhile is the driest month. This lake is so wonderful.
If only every place had this much outdoors enjoyable things, what a great earth it would be. A pretty lake like Cedar Lake near Elkhorn Lake is a nice place to take a look at, and there is a wonderful hiking trail nearby called the
Nohorn Trail. The Baty Silver King Trail is a great hiking trail close to Elkhorn Lake, and why not camp at Cascade Sports Camp if you're here at Elkhorn Lake.

 | I've seen the Volcano Trail on old maps but I didn't know it still existed. Part of it has been bypassed by logging roads. I believe it went to the old blowout shelter and the suspension bridge that is still there.... |
French Creek Trail
 | The French Creek Trail has been bypassed by logging roads at lower elevations. The trail now starts at about 4000 ft. on the way to Byar's Peak. There are some boulders on the road, one in particular had barely enough room to get by. Great views of Detroit area and Three Sisters from the ridge.... |
Pine Crest Trail
 | 10 miles away ...nd that S. Mollala Forest Rd narrows and now effectively ends. Actually, it continues, but the road is impeded by a gate sporting many 'no trespassing' signs and marking it 'private property'. When we got to this point, we were just about to turn around and go home when another car drove past us onto the road. Having driven for several hours to get there, we dared to venture further, and followed the car despite the many warnings on the gate. Now, if you are reading this please heed my advice... never do what we did. Do not try to find this trail. Listen to signs. They are usually there for a reason. We could not locate the next road to turn on because all the old street signs had been removed and all of the old turn-offs warned away the unauthorized with huge boulders blocking the road, locked gates and more no-trespassing signs. After taking some pictures of beautifully dilapidated country houses, we decided to call it a day and return home empty handed. However, when we got to the gate we came in through, we found that while we were away, someone had closed and locked it. We were ... |
