This lake is so wonderful. If you need a place to stay Best Western Ponderosa Lodge is a splendid choice, and Link Creek is one of the streams nearby that might be worth checking out. All the outdoors exciting things in the Central Cascade Range will keep you coming back over and over. Suttle Lake Resort and Marina is a good local campground; the Little Lake Trail offers hiking at its best. Not enough hours in a day to enjoy this location. Don't leave Dark Lake

| | without first going for a hike along the Cache Lake Trail. Lakes are splendid; Scout Lake is a lake that's near Dark Lake. Not enough hours in a day to enjoy the Central Cascade Range. Paddling on Marion Creek is so much fun, and you can hit the slopes at Hoodoo around here. High temperatures at Dark Lake through the summer are in the 70's with overnight lows in the 40's. Highs through the winter are usually in the 30's with winter lows in the 20's overnight | |

here at Dark Lake. There's nice hiking along the Round Lake Trail, and the best way to spend a winter day is on the slopes of close by Mt. Bachelor. This lake is located in the wonderful Central Cascade Range. This lake is so
wonderful. After a long day outdoors Lodge at Suttle Lake is a pleasant location to spend a night or two, and Squaw Creek has a fine whitewater paddling spot nearby. Cold Springs Resort is a magnificent campground nearby, and since
you might be in a lake visiting mood you can always go to nearby Suttle Lake. A large amount of rainfall falls at Dark Lake; December is the month that gets the most rain, and July is the month with the least moisture.

Jefferson Lake Trail
 | I just completed this trail with my German Shepherd and had a great time. We made Jefferson Lake in 4 hours, stayed the night and returned at a faster pace, making the trailhead in 3 hours. A big portion of the trail is overgrown with 5ft. tall plant life, making the trail impossible to see. I used a compass to stay on course and bushwhack for about 3 miles, then picked up the trail again. It's obvious this trail hasn't received any attention from the forest service for some time now,so plan on using your nav skills on this one. We encountered a braver-than-average black bear while encamped at Jefferson Lake, and had difficulty finding a suitable place to hang a bear bag since all the trees are limbless due to a forest fire. My dog, Sigg, is a good bear deterrant and took the night shift guarding the food bag. If you are considering this trail, start early enough so you're not walking in the dark and bring some good jungle juice (deet). Bear bells may be useful as well. Hope this helps somebody!... |
