Go to Cougar Lake if you want to go to a nice lake. This lake is so wonderful. So much fun stuff to do here in the Central Cascade Range, too delightful to be true. Camping at Skookum Lake Campground is always a good experience; Cougar Lake is not the only place nearby, Memaloose Lake is a nearby lake. This lake is located in the wonderful Central Cascade Range. | | site to spend a night or two, and glorious hiking is available along the Baty Silver King Trail. Divide Butte is a peak you can spot from Cougar Lake; a lake nearby is Williams Lake. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 70's to Cougar Lake. When the night sets in temperatures drop down into the 50's. Daytime highs during the wintertime are in the 40's; after the sun is down all through the wintertime temperatures at Cougar Lake plunge into the 30's. | |

What a site this is for outdoors folks. Hiking is a popular thing to do around Cougar Lake; South Fork Mountain Trail is a magnificent local trail, and whitewater paddling is not for everyone but if it's for you then, we recommend
Clackamas River. All year is a tremendous time in the Central Cascade Range if you adore the outdoors. Go for a hike on the High Camp Trail, and if you need a place to stay Howard Johnson Gresham is a nice choice. A tremendous site
to camp here at Cougar Lake is Silver Fox RV Park, and there are some delightful whitewater spots on Clackamas River - South Fork. Cougar Lake commonly gets a good deal of precipitation; the month of December is the wettest with most of the rain; July is when it's the driest.

Pine Crest Trail
 | ...nd that S. Mollala Forest Rd narrows and now effectively ends. Actually, it continues, but the road is impeded by a gate sporting many 'no trespassing' signs and marking it 'private property'. When we got to this point, we were just about to turn around and go home when another car drove past us onto the road. Having driven for several hours to get there, we dared to venture further, and followed the car despite the many warnings on the gate. Now, if you are reading this please heed my advice... never do what we did. Do not try to find this trail. Listen to signs. They are usually there for a reason. We could not locate the next road to turn on because all the old street signs had been removed and all of the old turn-offs warned away the unauthorized with huge boulders blocking the road, locked gates and more no-trespassing signs. After taking some pictures of beautifully dilapidated country houses, we decided to call it a day and return home empty handed. However, when we got to the gate we came in through, we found that while we were away, someone had closed and locked it. We were ... |
