Why not stop by Catalpa Lake if you're passing through these parts. After a long day outdoors Whispering Woods (Vri) is a perfect site to spend a night or two. Catalpa Lake is one of the lakes here in the Central Cascade Range. All the water falling down from the sky makes Catalpa Lake a wet place; the month of December is the wettest with most of the rain, and the driest month of the year is July.
Summertime highs at Catalpa Lake commonly tend to be in

the 70's. Once the sun is down it falls down to the 50's. For the duration of the winter highs are in the 40's, and after the sun is down all through the wintertime temperatures at Catalpa Lake fall into the 30's. So much amusing stuff to do here in the Central Cascade Range, too good to be true. Lots of people from Hood River come to Catalpa Lake, and if you came to camp Lower Twin Campground is a pleasant location to do that. All year is a nice time in the
Central Cascade Range if you love the outdoors. Float down the rapids of White River in a kayak, and the best way to spend a winter day is on the slopes of nearby Timberline Lodge.
Good hiking is available along the Boulder Lake Way Trail, and if you're here, you could also stop at delightful Twin Lakes. This lake is so wonderful. Hit the slopes at Mt. Hood Meadows close at hand, and a great nearby hotel is Mount Hood Inn. But wait, there's more to do in the vicinity of Catalpa Lake. If you come at the right time of year, Hood River - East Fork offers some great whitewater, and you'll stumble on a striking lake called Green Lake.
Camping at White River Park Campground is always a great experience, and there's good hiking along the Swamp Creek Hidden Meadows Trail. This lake is so wonderful. Don't leave Catalpa Lake without first going for a hike along the Bonney Meadows Trail, and do take a look at Bonney Creek if you're here at Catalpa Lake.

Have you been to the Bighorn campground site???While this is a beautiful pack-in, primitive site, it doesn't fit with your description. Before camping, take a hike on Nat. Forest Trail 742, without gear. After you've scoped the area, come back and stay. Even on Labor Day Weekend ('06) there were several campsites available in this dispersed camp area....
