Go to Carl Lake if you want to go to a nice lake. This lake is so wonderful. What would winter be without some skiing at Hoodoo; hiking is a popular thing to do around Carl Lake; Brush Creek Trail is a magnificent local trail. This lake is so wonderful. If you don't mind getting drenched, you can always go whitewater paddling on Metolius River; Lodge at Suttle Lake is a magnificent place to get some rest. Carl Lake is located in the Central Cascade Range.

| | Whohoo, so many entertaining things in one place! The Central Cascade Range is excellent! You'll hit upon a beautiful lake called Junction Lake near Carl Lake, and the peak of Forked Butte can be spotted from Carl Lake. Why not take a refreshing hike along the Cabot Lake Trail; if you came for an overnight stay Wizard Falls Campground is a great location to camp. All the outdoors amusing stuff in the neighborhood of Carl Lake will keep you coming back many times. | |

Lakes are such calm places, why not pop by Shirley Lake right next door to Carl Lake; do put some time aside to spend at Lava Spring since you're here at Carl Lake. Now, you may assume that's loads but there's even more fun stuff
to do here in the Central Cascade Range. Dry warm beds await you at Best Western Ponderosa Lodge, and do take a hike on the Summit Trail. For the period of the summertime at Carl Lake temperatures are commonly in the 70's; the night
is a bit chillier of course, usually in the 40's. All through the wintertime this place gets highs in the 30's while the cold winter nights at Carl Lake are in the 20's. Trout Lake Campground is a delightful local campground,
and a perfect location for whitewater paddling is Marion Creek. Carl Lake usually gets a great deal of rain; the month with most of the rain is December, and July is when it's the driest.

Jefferson Lake Trail
 | I just completed this trail with my German Shepherd and had a great time. We made Jefferson Lake in 4 hours, stayed the night and returned at a faster pace, making the trailhead in 3 hours. A big portion of the trail is overgrown with 5ft. tall plant life, making the trail impossible to see. I used a compass to stay on course and bushwhack for about 3 miles, then picked up the trail again. It's obvious this trail hasn't received any attention from the forest service for some time now,so plan on using your nav skills on this one. We encountered a braver-than-average black bear while encamped at Jefferson Lake, and had difficulty finding a suitable place to hang a bear bag since all the trees are limbless due to a forest fire. My dog, Sigg, is a good bear deterrant and took the night shift guarding the food bag. If you are considering this trail, start early enough so you're not walking in the dark and bring some good jungle juice (deet). Bear bells may be useful as well. Hope this helps somebody!... |
