Kay Weidenmaier Smith: Hi, Jack! I'm sure we met sometime long ago at Uncle Frank's because I remember fishing there, too. Emil was my grandfather and Bob is my father. I'm the oldest of Bob's kids and the only one to move any distance from Fort Cobb. Kendra is in Chickasha and Keri and Bobby are still in Fort Cobb. Do you have more details on when exactly Gerhardt came to the U.S. and how? I have been wondering about that for quite some time but could never find anything. You can contact me at dkwsmith@suddenlink.net. We're in Stillwater (not so very far from Fort Cobb).
Jack Weidenmaier: These large ponds / small lakes date to the early 1900's. They supplied fish to the Frank Weidenmaier( Sr.)family and neighbors during and after the depression of 1929-1941. This was an important food supplement to the home gardens and livestock which the primary source of food for the rural population at that time.. The lakes passed from Weidenmaier family control in the late 1960's, when Frank Senior, then in his 70's, sold the farm land and moved to a house in the adjacent town of Apache. I fished at the lakes in the 1950's and 60's as a kid with my Father Frank Jr. and his Dad. Incidentally, all Weidenmaier's are descinded from Gerhardt Weidenmaier, who came to the US in 1871. He changed the spelling to match English pronounciation rules. In Germany, the name was, and is spelled by the relatives '' Wiedenmaier''.I live in Lawton Ok, so if you are a Weidenmaier, contact me.
