Good hiking is available along the Walters Mule Trail. This lake is so wonderful. There are wonderful sites to look at along the Clayton Trail; the friendly people of McAlester like to hang out close by. Sardis Lake Campground is a delightful local campground; the scenery at Nanih Waiya Lake Dam is charming. High temperatures at Lake Nanih Waiya during the summertime are       in the 90's; during summer nights temperatures are in the 70's. During the wintertime the highs are typically in the 40's while the cold winter nights at Lake Nanih Waiya are in the 20's. The Ouachita Mountains scenery is always beautiful. Just can't get enough of the Ouachita Mountains. Go for a hike on the Hurd Creek Trail, and why not camp at Indian Mounds Camp while you're here at Lake Nanih Waiya.
