Lakes are such calm places, why not check out Sims Number 1 Reservoir near Ham Lake; there's great hiking along the Herman Baker Park Trail. At Ham Lake you always meet someone from Durant.
Summertime
 
   at Ham Lake arrives with high temperatures in the 90's, and through summer nights temperatures are in the 70's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 50's, and nighttime lows at Ham Lake through the wintertime frequently plunge into the 20's. If you need a place to stay Best Western Markita Inn is a tremendous choice; why not spend some time golfing at a close by golf course like Durant Country Club. Camping at Colbert Koa Kampground is always a glorious  
               experience, and after a long day outdoors Microtel Inn and Suites Durant is a pleasant site to spend a night or two.
A normal amount of precipitation falls here at Ham Lake; the month of May is the wettest with most of the rain, and January is the month with the least moisture. This lake is so wonderful. Good hiking is available along the Eisenhower State Park Trail, and a beautiful lake like McCarley Lake is a great site to visit.

You are right.  Alot of my best childhood memories are of that place.  I am stationed in Iraq right now and cant wait to get home and just take a nice walk around the lake...Same here.  I am 29 stationed in Iraq, I don't know how many times I have fished hiked and slid down the dam.  I have a picture hanging up here of my grandfather standing by the lake holding a small mouth bass.  A lot of my best memories growing up took place at that small oasis....Same as Armando...My mom used to take us and have picnics and we would get boxes and just slide down the hills.  It's so pretty there.  Just dont go at night......
