High temperatures at Clayton Lake throughout the days of summer are in the 90's, and during the night it cools down to the 70's. Daytime highs throughout the wintertime are in the 40's, and after the sun is down through the wintertime temperatures at Clayton Lake dip into the 20's. Clayton Lake is one of the lakes here in the Ouachita Mountains. Clayton Lake gets a lot of water; the wettest month of the year       is regularly May, that's the one that rains the most, and the driest month is January. This lake is so wonderful. People from McAlester love to come to Clayton Lake, and you can go for a hike on the Hurd Creek Trail. You can take a little journey to Clayton Lake Dam if you're here at Clayton Lake; going for a hike on the Clayton Trail is always a great adventure. And that's not all you can do here at Clayton Lake. Not enough hours in a day to enjoy the                  Ouachita Mountains. There's so much to do here at Clayton Lake that you need to camp here for a while, Indian Mounds Camp is a good place for that, and there is a fine hiking trail close by called the Walters Mule Trail.
