This lake is so wonderful. Going for a hike along the Hurd Creek Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this vicinity; let's not forget Hurd Creek which is a stream that you may encounter while you're here. Lots of rainfall falls at Clayton Lake; May is the month that gets the most rain while January is the month with the least amount of precipitation. But wait, there's more entertaining things to do in the Ouachita       Mountains. There's always Clayton Dam to explore near Clayton Lake. You'll need more than a day to discover everything Clayton Lake has to offer, you can camp at Sardis Lake Campground. You just can't envision the amount of outdoors fun stuff the area near Clayton Lake has to offer. On a nice day at Clayton Lake you can take a hike along the Walters Mule Trail, and if you're here you will meet lots of folks from nearby McAlester. Throughout the warmest time of                  the year highs here at Clayton Lake get into the 90's with nighttime lows in the 70's. Through the wintertime the highs are usually in the 40's, and winter nights come with lows in the 20's to Clayton Lake. Clayton Lake is a good location to visit for more than one day, Indian Mounds Camp is a good location to camp nearby, and if the weather is great, you can go for a hike along the Clayton Trail.
