A visit to Shaker Lakes is always a good idea. If you came to camp Tamsin RV Park is a glorious site to do that; glorious water scenery is available at Upper Shaker Lake Dam right next door to Shaker Lakes. This lake is so wonderful. Boston Mills is a fine local ski area, and if you get bored of Shaker Lakes you could also explore nearby Marshall Lake. At Shaker Lakes through the warm days of summer highs are in the 80's, and during the night it cools down to

| | the 60's. The winter comes with highs in the 30's with winter lows in the 10's overnight here at Shaker Lakes.
Shaker Lakes in fact is in the middle of a pretty outdoors paradise. Whitewater paddling is not for everyone but if it's for you then we recommend Tinker's Creek, and the slopes of Brandywine are so inviting noone can resist. do here at Shaker Lakes that you need to camp here for a while, Bass Isle Resort And Camping is a pleasant location for that. While you're here at Shaker Lakes you can play some golf at Euclid City Briardale Golf Course; get your
heart beating on the good whitewater of Chippewa Creek.
The annual rainfall here at Shaker Lakes is about average; June is the wettest month with most rain, and the driest month is January. If you need a place to stay The Glidden
House is a nice choice, and if time allows, Cuyahoga Valley National Recreation Area is a national park worth going to.
This lake is so wonderful. Intercontinental Hotel & Conference Center Cleveland is a pleasant place to get some rest; Shaker Lakes is not the only place nearby, Upper Shaker Lake is a nearby lake.

The sewage treatment plant just up river of the put-in location can make paddling after a big rain a little smelly. The park doesn't recommend any paddling on the river, and if you are going you should check their website for construction on the bridges along the way.... |
Virginia Kendall Park Lake

The dam was washed out in 2007, and is under repair. In the meantime it is very neat to be able to see the bottom of the lake. When I was a kid there used to be wooden toggonan runs that shot the tobbogans out onto the frozen lake at the end. The nearby Virginia Hills are still a great place for sledding, one of the best in the area.
Tamsin Park has been replaced by a housing subdivision. However, not far from Virginia Kendall in Boston is a American Youth Hostel, and there are several bed and breakfasts in the area as well. I don't know of any place to camp in the area (unless you are a boy or girl scout, they have camps nearby.)
If you enjoy biking, the nearby towpath trail winds along the old canal from Cleveland to Akron, and is a beautiful ride.... |
