In the event that you don't mind getting covered with water, you can always go whitewater paddling on Horner Run; Bell Lakes is right by the Southwoods Trail. Beulah Lake is a nearby lake that you could explore; at Glen Ridge Lake Dam in the vicinity of Bell Lakes there are some attention-grabbing things to see.

Horner Run
Horner is a great run with 3 major drops from 6 feet to 10-11 feet, the only problem is the take out. First you could carry the mile and a half out a trail on river left, or go under interstate 275 through a 100 yard long tunnel scout the tunnel first for strainers, third you could walk several hundred yards up to 275 and get out on the interstate shoulder. With all this in mind you might as well say forget Horner and head for Halls creek or Hershel run. Both have way easier put-in's and take out's...
