If you like lakes and you're in this part of New York you can check out West Pond. This place, West Pond, it simply has so much outdoors fun stuff. The snow is delightful at McCauley Mountain, and The Plains is a good site here at West Pond. Don't leave West Pond without first going for a hike along the Big Deer Pond Trail, and camping at OLD Forge Camping Resort is always a good experience. Not enough hours in a day to enjoy the Adirondack Mountains. High

| | Falls is a pretty place to take a look at while you're at West Pond, and get yourself into a kayak and hit Oswegatchie River - East Branch. West Pond gets a common amount of yearly rainfall; most of the rain falls during August while February is typically the driest month. to spend more than a day at, Robinson's Iga is a great local campground. For the period of the months of summer at West Pond temperatures are ordinarily in the 70's while nighttime lows are mostly in the 50's. For the period of the
wintertime the highs are ordinarily in the 20's; overnight lows at West Pond all through the wintertime ordinarily plunge into the 0's. This lake is so wonderful. There are other places here than West Pond, for example Gal Pond,
and there are pleasant sites to explore along the The Loop. West Pond is a beautiful lake in the Adirondack Mountains. During your spree to West Pond you'll meet some people from Ogdensburg-Massena for sure. This lake is so wonderful.
Cracker Pond is a good lake close to West Pond, and get dripping wet paddling on Oswegatchie River - East Branch. It's a nice idea to go to Robinson River, it's right next door to West Pond, and there's great hiking along the Salmon Lake Trail.

Terror Lake
 | ...ver drainage. Two brothers got lost up in the ridges above Terror Lake. Almost died. They found the lake and named it after their nights of terror. Guys used to hunt there in the fly in days. The last last guy to go there was a drainage ditch runner. Calls himself PH. Take his advice. It's a long way in and you MUST know the woods and be a woodsman. There are plenty of blow downs to go through overland. The way to go is via the end of Twitchell Lk. The Sisters who own the old Teahouse at the end of Twitchell are nice old girls. I saved their nephew one cold November night. They bought me some good whiskey. Anyway that's the way to get into Terror Lk. Follow the old trail into the South Branch Beaver River drainage. Head northeast for a good mile and keep the high ground to your right shoulder. Keep walking about 4 miles and make sure the big ridge is over your right shoulder. You can't miss the lake. There is an old ghost trail marked with blue soap can lids at the base of the ridge. Probably grown in by now. Don't need trails anyway. Use your Map & Compass. Don't do this trip with t... |

 | 1 PHOTO On 7/7/2009... 85 years ago my mother who lived in Brooklyn spent her vacations at Lake Twitchell,she said once she went to the adirondacks she never went back to the catskills. I got up this morning and thought of her conversations about the lake and decided to look it up, I hope it's still as beautiful as she described it so many years ago,I still have her snap shots.... |
