Roeliff Jansen Kill River
 | Hey, for anyone interested in kyaking or Canoeing down the Ro-Jan Kill beware: There are many downed trees, which in an instant could pin you down and end your life. No one maintains this water way, and in many sections you will be forced by naturally occurring dams to get out of your canoe, or kyak and walk you and your vessel down stream through thickets of nettle. Personally I completed a trip down this beautiful stream unaware of the many deadly stimuli. So if in the near future you plan to get away from everything, just take note to the above.... |

Camp Ramapo, our summer residential program, is an inclusive environment purposefully designed for children having difficulty building and maintaining healthy relationships with peers and adults. The daily program and activities are carefully structured to meet the needs of children who can benefit from a higher-than-average level of supervision, an engaging environment, and a character-building curriculum; all of which Ramapo provides.
A particular strength of Ramapo is its one-to-one staff-to-child ratio. The atmosphere is warm and supportive; all activities are carefully supervised; and the grounds are attractive and well cared for.
During each of our three summer sessions, 200 campers participate in creative projects, sports, and outdoor experiences. Days are action packed! Campers swim, canoe, climb mountains and camp out. They improve learning skills in the Reading Center and Computer Lab. Creative talents are nurtured in arts, crafts, and other enrichment activities. All Activities are indivi... |

Roeliff Jansen Kill River
 | 14 miles away I kayaked this stretch the day after a big rainstorm in a recreational kayak and it was considerably more difficult than the review makes it out to be. Several downed trees and a huge beaver dam were the worst obstacles. Bingham Mills to Dales Bridge has some dangerous spots. Dales Bridge to the Hudson River is considerably tamer but only about a 40 minute trip. I kayaked it in early June 2006.... |

Hilltop Pond
 | 15 miles away Hilltop Pond is a beautiful private pond. It's owned by the home owner on the top of the hill to the west and other adjoining land owners have pond rights. It's quite shallow, so it will always be in need of constant cleaning. The 42 acre pond is home to loads of wildlife and is the prime souce of water flowing into Macedonia State Park.
An interesting fact: The dam, rebuilt in the early 90's is made up of concrete blocks, each weighing over a ton. Environmental regulations wouldn't allow pouring cement into forms, so the large number of blocks were layed in place, held in place only by their individaul mass.
Jimmy Walker, the mayor of NYC would visit Hilltop Lodge, with his buddies. Hilltop Lodge was located on the west side of Weber Road where the road takes a bend well above about mid point in the length of the pond. The lodge burned to the ground in the 50's. There was no structure on the property from then until 1984, when the home to the north was constructed.... |
