If you are in this part of New York make sure to pay a visit to Sunset Lake. Mohawk River is a delightful whitewater spot near Sunset Lake, and if you came for an overnight stay Peaceful Pines Campground is a great place to camp. The amount of rain that falls at Sunset Lake is close to the national average; September is when you get the most rain here; the driest month is February. This lake is so wonderful. Summer brings highs in the 80's to Sunset Lake with overnight lows in the 50's. Throughout the winter highs are in the 20's, and nighttime lows at Sunset Lake through the winter usually descend into the 0's. You can run the rapids of Fish Creek - East Branch in close proximity to Sunset Lake; a pretty lake like Baker Reservoir is a great place to take a look at. My family used to own this lake, as well as the majority of the property surrounding it. I grew up fishing this pond as a child (as well as deer hunting around it. Excellent bass and good perch fishing. However, we sold most of the property a few years back. Unfortunately, there is no fishing open to the public. However, most of the surrounding property is now privately owned and operated as summer camp for underprivaledged kids (my grandparents are surely smiling from above because of this).
