     Bear Swamp is an interesting swamp in the vicinity of Stump Pond, and if the weather is delightful, you acquire a glorious panorama of Bare Hill from Stump Pond. After a long day outdoors Inn at Arbor Ridge and Cnf Ctr is a pleasant site to spend a night or two, and you'll meet a lot of people from Poughkeepsie-Newburgh-Middletown here. A great close by hotel is Le Chambord. There's so much to do here at Stump Pond that you need to camp here for a while, Clarence  
   Fahnestock State Park is a good spot for that. This lake is so wonderful. Good hiking is available along the Appalachian National Scenic Trail; Browns Pond is a fine lake close by.
Thunder Ridge is a very popular ski area in close proximity; Ten Mile River has a delightful whitewater paddling spot nearby. In case you don’t mind getting wet, you can always go whitewater paddling on Tenmile. This lake is so wonderful. Centennial Golf Club of New York is a golf
 
               course close to Stump Pond, and don't leave Stump Pond without first going for a hike along the Appalachian National Scenic Trail.

...the people of the surrounding lk. There were none on the east side of the lake at the time. Well we would collect our Christmas trees around fifty or so and dig them into the ice about forty ft apart and make two rows . Then we would all set a time and light em,, and we would skate , fish ,whatever the lines of trees ran from the n.west dock to the east..the clam bakes were held at the other lk..haven just up the stream that ran along my house..After the dam broke from lk haven the water flooded down into our house..What a flood..seems after that we sold the house to a fireman ,,and then our course by accident the house burnt down ,,and I thought fireman were supposed to put out fires not start em .hello to all that still prevail on chestnut ridge. yea I also went to school with Henry Winkler.. And back then we used to trick or treat all the way down to route six..camp sycamore well I still have my green card with the red paper wonder if its still good..the camp was but a lake with a cottage or two..and a cool as heck dirt road..I went to Austin rd elem.my age now is forty nine, and ...

Do you have any pictures of camp henry?  My father went there in the 1920's.  The land was sold a while ago and now has a housing development on it....Lillian Wald had a camp on secor lake .Camp Henry.i am fortune enough to have been born on the block where Lillian started the henry street settlement. I am a 49yr who spent 10 summers of my life on lake secor 67-76..Actually I live in the settlement for 3 1/2 yrs. Amazing!...

Hilltop Pond

Hilltop Pond is a beautiful private pond. It's owned by the home owner on the top of the hill to the west and other adjoining land owners have pond rights. It's quite shallow, so it will always be in need of constant cleaning. The 42 acre pond is home to loads of wildlife and is the prime souce of water flowing into Macedonia State Park.

An interesting fact: The dam, rebuilt in the early 90's is made up of concrete blocks, each weighing over a ton. Environmental regulations wouldn't allow pouring cement into forms, so the large number of blocks were layed in place, held in place only by their individaul mass.

Jimmy Walker, the mayor of NYC would visit Hilltop Lodge, with his buddies. Hilltop Lodge was located on the west side of Weber Road where the road takes a bend well above about mid point in the length of the pond. The lodge burned to the ground in the 50's. There was no structure on the property from then until 1984, when the home to the north was constructed....
